An Erith schoolgirl has won an award for her world champion martial art skills.

Megan-Rose Pearce, 11, has won the Bexley Young People’s Award for individual achievement for her outstanding contribution to sport.

The Erith Secondary schoolgirl joined Nemesis Gym in Erith Riverside Shopping Centre in 2012 and took up martial art Muay Thai, a combat sport from Thailand.

She has since become World Champion after becoming Southern Area Champion, English Champion and winner of the 2013 Super League title for Muay Thai.

Nemesis Martial Arts Academy’s head coach Michael Teyki said: "Megan-Rose has worked tirelessly for the past three years to reach such an impressive standard in Muay Thai - a journey which has been helped by her family and friends’ support as well as the encouragement of the team here at the gym.

"It is with great pride we see her being recognised by Bexley Council for her outstanding sporting achievements."

Megan-Rose was presented with her award on Saturday (Feb 21).
