A Penge cyclist has found scores of drawing pins scattered across a cycle lane in Beckenham.

Stephen Johnson discovered the pins when he was cycling along Beckenham Road towards South Eden Park Road at 7am on Sunday (February 22).

Mr Johnson, who regularly cycles along the road, says he believes the pins were put there deliberately and has reported it to the police.

The 29-year-old, who was heading to Catford Cycling Club’s The Hell of the Ashdown charity ride, said: “I picked them all up - I don’t usually have problems.

“I was just sad whoever did it didn’t think it might be dangerous. I’m glad I didn’t see any other riders affected.”

Last year, News Shopper reported how a mystery Biggin Hill resident had caused a stir amongst cyclists with a public signpost branding them “lycra louts”.

The unknown culprit had gone to the trouble of pinning a notice to a telegraph pole informing cycling clubs they were not welcome in the area.
