MEMBERS, friends and family raised £400 for the RSPB in memory of Doug Marchant, who died in September, aged 88.

Mr Marchant, of Woodlands Park, Bexley, was one of the group's founder members 27 years ago and several members attended his funeral in Eltham on September 29.

The RSPB agreed to a request that £150 raised through the group should go into the budget for Elmley Marshes, Doug's favourite reserve on the Isle of Sheppey.

Members of the public took part in the annual Big Garden Birdwatch on January 27.

There were two sites where the public could use telescopes to look at birds and ask questions .

The events took place at Hall Place Gardens, Bourne Road, Bexley and Lamorbey Park, Sidcup, in conjunction with Rose Bruford College.

Upcoming events include a talk on Bringing Wildlife Back to farmland by Des Sussex on February 16, starting 7.30pm at Hurstmere School, Hurst Road, Sidcup.
