A HERON being mobbed by four ring necked parakeets and a flock of goldfinches were among the delights of a morning's birdwatching at two of Bexley's open spaces.
More than 100 people turned out at Hall Place, Bourne Road, Bexley, and Lamorbey Park, off Burnt Oak Lane, Sidcup, for the annual Big Garden Birdwatch.
The use of telescopes enabled people to get a bird's-eye view of the many avian visitors.
Hall Place attracted a large number of visitors who observed 18 different species.
The event was organised by Bexley Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
Society member John Turner, who was in charge of the Bexley site, said although the goldfinches were probably the most unsual, people were fascinated to be able to see even the most common birds up close.
At Lamorbey Park, visitors had more exotic treats including a sparrowhawk, woodpeckers and a variety of wildfowl, such as cormorants.
