IT WAS good to see so many members present at the social event in December.
The event was a most enjoyable evening.
It started with wine, nibbles and a quiz, followed by light festive food.
A mixture of friendship, conversation and laughter brought a good start to the festive season.
In early January, our guest speaker was Adrian Green, curator of Bromley Museum at Priory Gardens.
He showed slides of famous people from in and around Bromley.
This included author Enid Blyton, who had taught at Bickley Park School.
Thomas Crapper, plumber and inventor, is buried in Elmers End Cemetery.
Cricketer W G Grace lived in Mottingham and had scored his first century at the age of 15 when he made 170.
Lord Avebury was from High Elms, author H G Wells was from Bromley and H G Willett of Petts Wood gave us Daylight Saving.
Mr Green proved to be a most eloquent speaker and a mine of information.
Members were sorry his interesting talk had to end.
