A RESIDENT who fell asleep while burning candles had a lucky escape last night.
Fire crews were called to a flat in Westmoreland Road, Bromley, at 8pm last night after the candles set light to a living room.
The tenant, who had dozed off, was able to get out of the building in time before flames engulfed the room.
Two fire engines from Bromley station, one from Beckenham and one aerial appliance from Forest Hill had the fire under control within minutes. No injuries were reported although there was substantial damage to the flat's interior.
