Almost 4,000 current and former residents of Bexleyheath and Crayford have been brought together thanks to one man's nostalgic Facebook site.

David Smith, aged 43, of Burgate Close, Crayford set up 'Crayford, Bexleyheath and Surrounding Area's Past, Present & Future' in March last year in the hope that fellow residents would share memories and old photographs of the area, old friends and neighbours.

Mr Smith grew up in Mount Road before moving to Hazel Road in Slade Green during his 20s, where he lived for 11 years.

He then moved to Barnes Cray Road where he lived until October 2013.

He said: "I set the group up, basically to help bring some happy memories to the residents that live there, or once lived there.

"I have since moved further afield but still have a soft spot for the area."

The group, which now has 3,867 members has seen old friends reunited and relationships rekindled.

Mr Smith, who grew up in Mount Road, added: "I often get members private message me saying thanks to this group they have met back up with old school friends and family members they had lost contact with and haven't seen for over 30 years.

"This makes me really happy to hear stories like this, knowing because of a certain picture placed on the group or a person's name mentioned people are being reunited again."

The group sees both Mr Smith and members post pictures of buildings, streets and people in Bexleyheath, Crayford, Erith and Bexley Village from as far back as the early 1900s to modern day.
