THE Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for tomorrow with heavy snow predicted.

Up to 5cm is expected to fall after midnight tonight across south-east London and north Kent.

A spokesman for the Met Office said disruption is expected as the snow could still be falling during rush hour traffic.

Southeastern Trains is working with Network Rail in a bid to reduce disruption to services.Empty trains will run through the night tonight to try and stop snow setting on the track and turning to ice.

De-icer fluid will be put on the rails.

A spokesman said: "While we are doing everything we can to run as normal a service as possible, please be advised there may be delays on some services tomorrow."

Gritting crews are expected to be out twice tonight in Bromley to stop roads and pavements freezing.

They will be sent out at 10pm and 4am if the expected 5cm of snow falls in Bromley overnight.

Bromley Council believes this will turn to rain by mid-rush hour tomorrow morning.

But roads could be icy if the temperature drops and snow falls again.

Highways Agency and Kent County Council gritters will be out on motorways and key routes to treat roads.

The Highways Agency is advising drivers to check weather forecasts and road conditions before they travel.

A spokesman said: "If the weather is severe, don't travel unless your journey is essential.

"People are also advised to make sure they are prepared with warm clothes, food, water, boots, de-icer, a torch and spade, particularly for long journeys."

Kent Police is advising residents to keep a stock of torches, matches and candles in case of a power cut.

Mobiles phones should be kept charged.

Bromley Council has set up a snow line which will be open during office hours when snow affects the roads.
