The Prime Minister David Cameron today vowed the government would keep open St George’s Chapel of Remembrance in Biggin Hill.

Mr Cameron said he would “do whatever it takes” to keep the chapel open for future generations at Prime Minister’s Questions in the House of Commons.

The Main Road chapel faced closure after the Ministry of Defence (MoD) decided to pull its funding.

On Monday, Biggin Hill Airport stepped in to secure the chapel's future and pledged to stump up the £50,000 annual cost of keeping it open.

Pilots from Biggin Hill who lost their lives during the Second World War are commemorated at the chapel.

An e-petition launched against the MoD’s proposal has passed more than 26,000 signatures.
