A West Wickham man is on the road to success after winning a brand new set of wheels.

Paul Atkinson, 66, scooped the grand prize in St Christopher's Christmas raffle.

The hospice, in Sydenham, invited Bromley Mayor Councillor Julian Benington, Mayor of Lambeth, Councillor Adedamola Aminu, and Chair of Lewisham Council, Councillor Jimi Adefiranye to help pick the winner.

Mr Atkinson could not believe her had won the Nissan Micra 1.2 Visia, and called the hospice back five minutes later to confirm.

He said: "I’m thrilled to have won the first prize in the draw, I don’t usually win anything!

"This will definitely be an upgrade to the car I am driving now. Thank you.

"St Christopher’s is a wonderful charity and I’m always pleased to have a chance to support them when I can."

Twelve other people scooped prizes at the draw, held on December 17.

Other prizes included Apple iPad mini, a 'View from the Shard' experience and afternoon tea, and a £150 Selfridges voucher, with some visitors drawing the winning tickets.

Christine Davies, fundraising manager, said: "Thank you to all our wonderful corporate supporters who gave us such exciting raffle prizes.

"A huge thank you, too, to everyone who bought tickets; all profits that we make go directly to helping St Christopher’s provide free family care and palliative care to our local community."
