An 18-year-old army cadet from Dartford has been named Army Cadet of the Year.

Sergeant Major Ben Hutchins, who parades at Swanley Detachment Army Cadet Force, bagged the award and was also named one of ten Kent Lord-Lieutenant Cadets for 2014/15.

Sergeant Major Hutchins is an apprentice for an electrical company.

He said: "I am very happy and proud. "This award means that everything I have achieved throughout my time at cadets has not gone unnoticed and I realise personally just how far I have come." #

Detachment Commander Lieutenant Martin Taylor added: "Ben has the respect of cadets and adult staff alike and is an outstanding role model for junior cadets."
