The Kent Police and Crime Commissioner has launched a scheme supporting projects which help keep young people away from crime and anti-social behaviour.
Anne Barnes launched the Youth Diversion Fund last week available to community and voluntary groups which provide activities for youngsters.
Groups can apply for grants of up to £10,000 a year, preferably with matched-funding, for projects which divert young people from crime or anti-social behaviour or positively address potential risk-taking behaviours.
Mrs Barnes said: “I firmly believe once a young person is in the Criminal Justice System, it’s very hard to get them out again.
“It’s part of my police and crime plan to educate young people and divert them away from crime and anti-social behaviour, so I’m delighted I’ve been able to find the funding to launch a new Youth Diversion Fund.”
The deadline for proposals is May 14 with the Commissioner hoping to have made her decisions by May 30.
