In the Easter holidays there is no doubt every Sixth former is revising and seeing friends in the evening, or even trying to pass their driving test. But masses of traffic has emerged since Spring Lane has closed in Addiscombe, affecting surrounding areas  such as Beckenham, Shirley, South Norwood as all vehicles are trying to go the same route.

Spring Lane is a main road joining South Norwood and Addiscombe, which recently is undergoing road works named ‘national grid works’. It is predicted to take 12 weeks to be completed so it won’t only affect the Easter holidays but up until A-Level exams. At such a crucial time it couldn’t have been more inconveniently timed as it causes transport issues in getting to school.  For others passing their driving test in the Croydon or West Wickham area will spend the majority of their time just waiting for a light to turn green for them to move 10 metres or so forward.

The traffic means side roads aren’t being left open for other drivers to go down as they are blocked by the cars waiting in the traffic jam. The amount of traffic would be less if other roads such as Coombe road didn’t undergo road works at the same time; this is located between Shirley Hills and Croydon.

Lorraine Wood said: ‘It is so frustrating that when it comes to me getting into the road I live on, I am blocked off which causes more issues because I am holding up the main road traffic behind me until those cars move.’
