THOUSANDS of Millwall fans - including celebrity supporter Daniel Day-Lewis - have signed a petition against land being sold off around The Den.
The club is angry that three areas of land leased from Lewisham Council have been sold to developer Renewal. But the local authority says the club has failed to put forward realistic plans for its own development of the sites.
People Before Profit handed over a 1,081 signature petition at a council meeting last week with John Hamilton from the group saying: "Our view is the land should be held in public ownership and continue to be leased to Millwall."
But he was accused by deputy mayor Councillor Alan Smith of jumping on a bandwagon and being "inflammatory".
And Cllr Smith told the meeting: "I hope we can have meetings with the club but they wont be about the land sale."
A separate petition organised by Millwall's fan on the board Peter Garston now has more than 5,000 signatures. He said: "The main aim is to get everyone around the table and stop all this infighting."
Millwall are due to meet the council on March 14.
