LEWISHAM residents are being warned to be on alert after bogus trading standards' officers demanded £2,500 from one victim.
The council says there have been two recent separate incidents where the fake workers asked residents for money.
A spokeswoman said: "Trading standards never ask residents for money.
"If someone calls at your home claiming to be from trading standards ask for their full name, telephone number and the address of their office. Tell them to write to you but do not give them any personal information.
"Contact Lewisham trading standards on 020 8314 2288 to check whether the caller was genuine."
