1973: Fear gripped the commuter population of south London and north Kent following bombs at King’s Cross and Euston raiIway stations.
In less than a week, further bombs at Victoria station, Oxford Street and Sloane Square were discovered.
1943: Scores of local boys imprisoned in Italy were on their way home following the news Mussolini had been sacked, Italy plunged into chaos and the signing of an armistice was imminent. The repatriation of POWs was followed by announcement of a exchange between Britain and Germany of sick and seriously wounded prioners captured at Dunkirk and Dieppe.
1913: Kent won their fourth cricket championship title in eight years. There were remarkable individual efforts from Colin Blythe, who took 163 wickets and Frank Woolley, who took 83 wickets and scored 1,737 runs.
