OLDER people in Catford showed off their talents at a creative event day to “celebrate age”.
Tapestry, knitting, baking and painting pieces were all on display from members of the Diamond Club – which is based in Hartley Hall, Culverley Road.
The celebration came after the club for over 60s gained a total £ 3,000 of Catford Local Assembly cash for its worthwhile activities ranging from bingo lunches to holidays.
Club coordinator Lesley Allen said: “It was a lively event with Cllr Peggy Fitzsimmons judging the competitions.
"The older people loved showing all their skills.
“Celebrating Age is the title – a celebration of creative skills of older people with anything from tapestry, knitting, jewellery making and painting.”
The club aims to tackle isolation for older people and caters for around 60 members with weekly meetings held on a Tuesday for £ 2.50 and is also funded by nearby Holy Cross Church. There is a waiting list to join but for more information contact Ms Allen on 020 8698 4731.
