A CYCLIST has died following an accident in Loampit Vale, Lewisham, this morning (June 24).
Officers were called at around 7.53am to reports of a car in collision with a cyclist.
Paramedics attended the scene and the cyclist - a man - was taken to a south London hospital where he has since died from his injuries.
A spokesman for the Met Police said next of kin were aware but formal identification has yet to take place.
The car involved - a red Audi - did not initially stop at the scene but was located a short distance away. Its driver, a 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
He remains in custody at a south London police station.
An investigation has been launched by officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit. Anyone with information should call 020 8285 1574 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
