CHARITY shops are a haven for shoppers hoping to stumble across unique jewellery, vintage clothing and interesting bric-a-brac.

But donations delivered by some members of the public are not always what you might expect.

The unexpected sometimes finds itself on the doorstep of charity shops across Bexley, as a morning of News Shopper research has highlighted.

The Cancer Research store in Bellegrove Road, Welling, once had the pleasant surprise of discovering a live rabbit – in a box - on its doorstep.

This peculiar choice of donation left the shop managers both bewildered and amused.

A box of cooked rice was also left as a donation at the same shop on separate occasion.

And it seems culinary donations are not as rare as one would imagine.

The EllenorLions Hospice shop, in Upper Wickham Lane, Welling, was presented with a cauliflower last year by a generous donator.

False body parts have also been donated to second-hand shops.

The Scope charity shop on Broadway, Bexleyheath, has been donated a set of dentures, a false eye and a false leg during the past year.
