1993: A memorial stone was erected by the Metropolitan Police in memory of Det Con John Fordham who was stabbed to death by Kenneth Noye, in January 1985, in the grounds of Noye’s home at West Kingsdown. Noye was later acquitted, after claiming he acted in self-defence.
1933: Amazing scenes were witnessed at Farnborough during the funeral of Mrs Urania Boswell, known throughout the land as Gipsy Rose Lee. More than 1,500 people poured into the village to glimpse the last journey of the Queen of the Gipsies. She was the accepted leader of the last great family of the Romany tribe.
1913: Suffragettes caused trouble throughout Kent especially in the area south of the River Thames where the wife of cricketer WG Grace taught many of her friends how to throw stones fast and accurately at public figures.
