A CATFORD teenager has dashed a Greenwich promoter's campaign to get an anti-Margaret Thatcher song to number one.

Mark Biddiss, who organises charity events in Greenwich, had been masterminding an attempt to get Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead to the top spot this weekend.

But the Wizard of Oz classic, sung by Judy Garland sold 52,605 copies - 6,000 less than Duke Dumont featuring A*M*E.

A*M*E, better known to friends and family as 18-year-old Amy Kabba, is a former Sedgehill School pupil recently signed to Gary Barlow's record label.

The singer, who has now spent a fortnight at number one, tweeted: "NUMBER 1 for the 2nd week!!!!!! Pow pow powwwww!!"

BBC radio bosses had come under pressure not to play the Thatcher song on their chart rundown. In the end, they played just a few seconds along with a pre-recorded news segment.
