DEPTFORD chose a new Labour councillor last night with Olufunke Abidoye gaining more than 50 per cent of the votes for Evelyn ward.
Ms Abidoye claimed 978 votes out of a total 1751 in the by-election following Labour councillor Councillor Joseph Folorunso stepping down last month to continue running an orphanage in Togo.
Lewisham People Before Profit candidate Barbara Raymond ranked second with 404 votes followed by William Town for Lib Dems with 131.
While UKIP's candidate Paul Oakley and Tory representative Simon Nundy each gained 119 votes.
The polls opened yesterday at 7am and closed at 10pm with a low turn-out of just 16.2 per cent of the electorate.
Full details of the by-election are available on the council website.
