A FOREST Hill woman who killed her lover and hid his body in a bin stormed out of the witness box after being branded a liar during cross-examination today.

Karen Otmani, of Stanstead Road, killed boyfriend Shaun Corey last June, putting his body in a box, later placed in a wheelie bin, which she kept in her bedroom for 11 days before police found it.

The 42-year-old claims Mr Corey had been emotionally abusive during their relationship, including forcing her to have sex for up to 10 hours at a stretch and acting out scenes from pornographic films.

She told the Old Bailey she had tied Mr Corey to her bed to teach him a lesson but, as she attempted to free him, he began shouting and threatening her.

Otmani said: "I was cutting him loose and he was shouting, he wouldn't stop shouting. I just found myself on the bed on top of him with a pillow over his face."

Prosecutor Bobbie Cheema, who had earlier branded Otmani "an out-and-out liar as well as controlling and manipulative woman", said her lack of memory about how she came to pick up the pillow was "convenient".

"That's not true," Otmani replied.

Asked several more times about the killing, Otmani said: "If you're going to be like this with your questions I'm not going to answer anymore.

"If you want me to leave the dock then so be it, I will. Don't make me out to be some kind of monster."

Otmani, who claims she did not mean to kill her lover, was then asked several times why she failed to call for help.

She fired back: "If you're just here to humiliate me, I'm not going to speak to you."

Otmani then left the witness box, saying: "She wants eight or 10 answers for the same thing and I'm not prepared to speak to her."

The defendant was advised to consider her position during the court's lunchtime break.

Earlier Otmani had said that, after Mr Corey was dead, she went upstairs and made him a breakfast of cheesy beans.

Asked by her defence barrister Jonathan Anders why, she replied: "I don't know. I wanted him to wake up."

She explained she had dressed him in pyjamas and put him in a box on the advice of another lover she and Mr Corey had been "scamming" for money.

The defendant said: "I didn't want him to go anywhere. I wanted to keep him with me and I was going to look after him."

She added: "I was talking to him as I put him in the box. I told him 'I'm sorry' and I said 'If you want to stay with me you have to stay in the box, I'm sorry'."

Otmani denies murder. Her friend Bernard Beddoe, aged 60, of Revelon Road, Brockley, also denies murder and assisting an offender.

The trial continues.
