SOMETHING fishy is going down in Forest Hill this weekend as the Horniman Museum and Gardens brings the jungle to London.
Amazon Adventure - Vicious Fishes and Other Riches is opening on February 16 with an interactive voyage exhibition where families can explore the world’s largest and most biologically diverse river with its animals, plants and cultures.
Visitors can learn about unusual creatures including pink dolphins, piranhas and anacondas, come face-to-face with stingrays and live tetras.
There will also be a chance to experience the simulated zap of an electric eel and even explore inside the belly of a giant catfish replica.
Hands-on experiences will be combined with aquariums and scientific research and the chance to discover the environmental dangers facing the Amazon and its inhabitants such as overfishing, poaching and logging.
Horniman aquarium curator Jamie Craggs said: “It’s great to see our tetras, and the rays on loan from the Zoological Society of London, bringing this exhibition to life, and helping people to understand the importance of managing human impact on natural environments.”
Amazon Adventure – Vicious Fishes & Other Riches, opens on February 16 at 12.30pm and will be open daily from 10.30am until November this year.
