Doctor Dolittle is back talking to the animals and on stage in Leslie Bricusse’s family musical, which launches in Bromley this November and is being co-produced by the Churchill Theatre.

Based on the popular 1967 film with Rex Harrison, this spectacular new show stars Mark Williams (The Fast Show, 101 Dalmatians, The Borrowers and seven of the Harry Potter film series) as the doctor.

Among his co-stars are Vicky Entwistle (Coronation Street, Ackley Bridge, Les Misérables) as his trusty side-kick Polynesia and Brian Capron (Coronation Street, Grange Hill, Where The Heart Is) who is playing both Albert Blossom and Straight Arrow.

Each week, Mark Williams is reporting to News Shopper direct from the rehearsal rooms, as the musical comes together and the complex production takes shape ahead of showtime in just a few weeks' time.

WEEK 3

Hello again,

This doesn’t look much like a rehearsal room. Well spotted. This is the Great Pink Sea Snail under construction. That’s the spiral framework in front of Tom the designer, Chris the director and Russell the construction genius.

You can see the size of him - the snail - and he’ll be pink! He’s what we in the trade call ‘A Showstopper’.

So with him, 25 cast and 36 puppets we’ve got an amazing spectacular on stage. We’ve also got Brian Capron as Albert Blossom. You may remember Brian from Corrie.

News Shopper:

"Hi everyone, I’m playing the circus owner, a big boozy barnstorming character with a great number featuring the Pushmi-Pullyu, a double headed llama puppet, eight-feet high with two performers inside! It dances and does tricks and even skips!"

Let me tell you that is a sight to see, you’ve never seen anything like it in your life.
