Here are some of the best walks in south London that will get you some exercise and also give you some great sights across the area.

Erith to Bostall Wood

This 3.4-mile walk gives you panoramic views of the Thames estuary at Erith before heading up to higher climes at Bostall Woods and London’s hidden heathland.

On this 3.6-mile walk you can see the 18th century Royal Artillery barracks and stunning views towards the North Downs. One branch of this section goes from Plumstead Common to Oxleas Wood.

This 3.9-mile stretch runs from Beckenham Place Park to Crystal Palace and is steeped in heritage with a Victorian dinosaur park and a rather unusual Edward VIII pillar box at Stumps Hill.

Crystal Palace to Nunhead Cemetery

From Crystal Palace Park to Nunhead Cemetery, with an option to divert to Dulwich Park, this is a comparatively new 5.4-mile section of TfL's Green Chain Walk.

Nunhead Cemetery Tour

One of the most beautiful and serene cemeteries in south London, Nunhead Cemetery has some cracking views that can’t be replicated anywhere else. The sheer vastness of it allows for a good 1.5 to 2-hour walk inside its borders. FONC (Friends of Nunhead Cemetery) offers some guided tours that are free to join.
