Classic fairy tales will be brought together in one puppet-packed family show in south east London next month.

Four cast members, led by The Storyteller, will play scores of characters in A Pocketful of Grimm at The Albany in Deptford and Canada Water Culture Space.

The show will take audiences on journey through dark forests, enchanted castles, edible houses and ocean shores as well-loved Brothers Grimm tales including Hansel and Gretel and Rumplestiltskin are brought to life.

The production was a hit at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe last August and comes from award-winners Story Pocket Theatre.

Writer and co-director Adam Fletcher-Forde said: “Telling stories is at the centre of everything we do. The story is king and there are so many brilliant stories from the Grimms’ collections. Some are very well known but by moving away from the modern versions and going back to the original stories, we’ve unearthed some spectacular surprises.

“Our aim is to entertain the whole family with our stories: of course the children but also the grown-ups who bring them along to the theatre. We’re so pleased to be getting out on the road and sharing these wonderful stories with as wide an audience as possible.”

A Pocketful of Grimms is at Canada Water Culture Space at 1pm and 3pm on Saturday, October 15, and The Albany in Deptford at 1pm and 3pm on Sunday, October 16.
