A DEPTFORD nature attraction has been named runner-up in a London-wide award.

The Creekside Discovery Centre, which gives children and families unique access to Deptford Creek and its array of crabs, eels and flounders, was recognised in the Introducing Young People to Nature in the Growing Localities Awards.

Based in one of the most built up areas of the capital, the centre runs activities for kids to get near to nature such as guided walks, mudlarks and bug hunts.

Centre Zoologist Natalie Tibble said: “Most local young people have little chance to get up close to wild fauna or flora, we’re trying to change that and it is wonderful that our work has been recognised.”
