Bexley’s X Factor champion and former prison warden Sam Bailey is going back to jail – but this time she’ll be singing all the way.
Sam, who studied at Cleeve Park School and Bexley Performing Arts Schools, will star as Mama Morton in the national tour of Chicago.
Before she won the X Factor in 2013, mum-of-three Sam worked as a prison warden at HM Prison Gartree so it shouldn’t be too difficult for her to get into character as the matron of Cook County Jail, a role played by Queen Latifah in the 2002 film version.
The Award-winning show’s latest tour also stars EastEnders’ Christian Clarke, John Partridge, as Billy Flynn and Corrie, Emmerdale and Dancing on Ice favourite Hayley Tamaddon as Roxie Hart.
Chicago opens in Oxford in early February before coming to New Wimbledon Theatre from February 22 to 27 and the Orchard Theatre, Dartford, from February 29 to March 5. Go to atgtickets.com/Wimbledon or orchardtheatre.co.uk
