Drink 4/5 Decor 4/5 Food 2/5 Price 3/5 Atmosphere 4/5 Staff 4/5AS I walked towards the Maple Tree I was dreading some kind of every night is Canadian theme night' pub. I was expecting the owners to have taken the Maple Tree theme a bit too far.

When I finally got there after a seemingly never ending walk down Maple Road I was overjoyed to find a good old-fashioned boozer, nothing more, nothing less.

Feeling a little hungry I was looking forward to some kind of pie or fish and chips. But unfortunately for me and my stomach they had stopped serving any kind of hot food about five hours before I arrived.

Settling for a bag of crisps I was pleased to see they had not succumbed to any of the new-fangled cracked black pepper and balsamic vinegar varieties. The most exotic option was Mini Cheddars which, some would say, are a meal in themselves.

There was the usual selection of spirits and wines and an impressive array of beers and lagers on tap. I plumped for a pint of Young's Special served at the perfect temperature, though I would have liked to have paid slightly less than £2.25.

Taking a seat at one of the tables I took a moment to admire the decor. Oil lamp style lights lit up the room and the pinkish seats were reminiscent of a chain hotel lounge.

But a moment was all I had. I soon found myself in friendly discussion with a local about whether he should convert part of his bathroom into a wet room. I believe Saturdays are much better spent watching the match than making your house the victim of a ridiculous home makeover show.

I really hope he took my advice.

The Maple Tree is a really friendly pub and if you fancy a quiet pint in the evening then this is a great place to go.

Just be be aware it might not stay quiet for long.
