Biggin Hill Airport will be hosting the 2017 Festival of Flight this weekend.

Thousands of people descend on Biggin Hill Airport to see the airshows and this year the weekend will be commemorating the centenary year and the birth of the famous RAF fighter station.

1) This year will feature the Biggin 100 exhibition which will celebrate the history of the airport and take a look at the roles it played during the First World War.

2) It is the centenary year for the airport. There will be a display from the RAF's Typhoon display team, which will take to the skies on Saturday, and Hurricanes and Spitfires will be taking part in a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

3) Britain's famous Red Arrows will perform and colour the skies red white and blue. As well as the Red Arrows, nine BAeS Hawks will display on both weekend days during the afternoon.

4) The best of European talent will also be on display for crowds as planes from the Belgium and the Czech Republic will perform. The Belgian Air Force F16 Display Team and the Czech Air Force Sab Jas 39 Gripen will be flying both days.

5) This year's Festival of Flight includes the only 2017 appearance from the French Air Force team Patrouille De France, which like the Red Arrows are known for using smoke during their shows. They are flying on Sunday only.

6) Helicopters! It is not just planes that will be performing at the festival as Czech attack helicopters will also be taking off on both days.

7) Daredevil wing-walkers will, weather permitting, be putting on a show on both days. Based in the UK, the Breitling Wingwalkers claim to be the world's only formation wing-walking team.

Colin Hitchins, Festival of Flight director London Biggin Hill, said: “As well as our classic and modern displays, this year’s show will include aerobatics from two national teams.

"The Festival of Flight exceeds visitors' expectations every year, and 2017 is no exception – this year’s exclusive line-up makes it summer’s must-attend aviation event.”

Tickets are still on sale for the Festival of Flight which takes place on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 August.
