After several months of wonder and anticipation it was a delight to see Thai Moom restaurant finally open, and what a great addition to Petts Wood it is.

If the name is familiar, you may already know its sister restaurant that has been established for four years in Kings Hill.

I was thrilled when I was asked to review the restaurant as Thai food is certainly a favourite of mine. I was also intrigued to find out about the name and discovered Thai Moom simply means ‘Thai corner’.

The first thing that struck me when I walked into the restaurant was the décor, no expense has been spared here, it’s very tastefully furnished and oozes class.

The menu has been put together by Head Chef Petchaluck Sanard, who has already been accredited for his excellence in Thai cuisine by the highly acclaimed Tiffen Cup, and includes both classic dishes as well as some more unusual ones.

News Shopper: Thai Moom – Petts Wood

To start, we opted for a classic Thai Platter comprised of chicken satay, fish cakes, spring roll, prawn wrap, crispy duck roll and kanom pang na koong, served with a selection of chilli and chutneys.

When the dish came arrived it looked almost too good to eat. Beautifully presented, the plate was decorated with flowers and birds skilfully cut from vegetables.

For our main course we chose the famous Thai green curry, pad Thai noodles, chilli crispy duck and grilled sea bass in pandan leaves.

The duck was succulent and was served in a spicy sauce. My favourite dish was the sea bass. The slowly cooked marinated fish served with a spicy chilli sauce was not only a little unusual but tasted absolutely gorgeous. I strongly recommend it to any seafood fans.

After passing on my compliments to the chef he proceeded to come out of his kitchen to greet us. A modest and charming gentleman, he was only too happy to show us how he carved out the flowers and birds, taking only a few minutes and using just one small knife.

Feeling fit to burst we were offered desserts of mor kaeny puek (Taro custard served with vanilla ice cream to you and I) and ripe mango with sweet coconut sticky rice, known as kao neo manuang. I don’t have a particularly sweet tooth but my partner loved them.
