A man has died after being struck by a lorry in Farnborough.

Met Police and London Ambulance Service were called to the crash on Farnborough Common at the junction with Hilda Vale Road at around 10.30am on Thursday (June 11).

The pedestrian, a man believed to be 45, was knocked down by a lorry and pronounced dead at the scene.

The lorry driver stopped at the scene and was not arrested.

Farnborough Common was closed both ways for six hours yesterday while accident investigation work was carried out.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and traffic was heavily congested on Tubbenden Lane and Crofton Road.

Builder Jason Parker, who has been working on a house adjacent to the crash, told News Shopper: “I was downstairs drilling and I came out here and saw the air ambulance.

“Someone said there was an accident and asked ‘Did you hear the screech?’ “It’s just a bit of a mess.

“I’m here on my own. I was fitting a kitchen so, I’ve just seen the aftermath of it.

“I believe he just stepped off the island and that was it – the guy behind said he came out of the back of the lorry. It’s not very nice.”
