As we head into the summer months, lots of Londoners may be travelling to the Trafalgar Tavern in Greenwich for a pint in its stunning beer garden overlooking the river Thames.

However, what you may not know is quite how much of a labyrinth this popular pub is.

Robert Scalon, manager of the Trafalgar Tavern, showed the News Shopper the endless floors and bars throughout the pub.

You may walk in through the front door and think that the bar in front of you, and the extensive outdoor area, is all there is.

But you could not be more wrong.

If you pass through the doorway with the word “Nile” above it, you will find yourself in the pub’s restaurant.

While food is served throughout the Trafalgar Tavern, this is the spot for anyone looking for something more formal.

Like the rest of the building, the walls are lined with beautiful paintings of boats and bodies of water, giving guests plenty to look at while they wait for their food.

If you head downstairs, there is a cellar underneath the pub with a huge TV screen.

Robert explained that this is the ideal part of the pub for sports fans as the sound is played out loud so customers can immerse themselves in the experience.

There is also a bar on this floor so no need to go back upstairs for another drink, and the area is also sometimes used as overflow when the pub is very busy.

Upstairs, there are multiple functions rooms, all with different vibes for different events.

One of the rooms has stunning, glass chandeliers and would make the perfect backdrop for a wedding reception.

It also has huge, round tables to seat guests and enormous double doors taking you through to another room, with another bar of course, that would make a perfect dance floor.

There are massive bay windows giving people a gorgeous view across the Thames from up high.

Up another staircase and around another corner is the next room with another bar.

This one is also great for functions or an overflow of customers.

It has an outdoor balcony where you can even see the beer garden below, get some fresh air and take in the phenomenal views of London.

Outside the pub, there are numerous picnic benches right next to the river, so you can hear the water swish by as you enjoy a pint in the sun.

Each picnic table does have an umbrella in case the sun gets too much, they all have union jack patterns on them which is a theme across the Trafalgar Tavern as outside the pub there are rows and rows of world flags.

The Trafalgar Tavern first opened back in 1837, the year Queen Victoria took to the throne.

It was built on the site of the Old George Tavern and today, the pub has maintained the essence of a nineteenth-century tavern.

Back in the 1800s, it was famous for its whitebait suppers and famous customers such as Charles Dickens, William Thackeray, Wiliam Gladstone and Benjamin Disraeli.
