West Wickham Police praise volunteer

West Wickham Police Officers have praised the dedication of an award-winning local volunteer who has decided to retire at the age of 86.

Joan Harrow, who served for over five years on the front counter at the office, was the recipient of a Safer Bromley Award late last year.

She was one of the original volunteers recruited from the local community in order to forestall the planned closure of the front counter facilities at the High Street Office, and had served on the counter for over five years.

A spokesperson for the West Wickham Safer Neighbourhood Team said: "Joan, with many others, provided local residents with the opportunity of personal contact when reporting any incidents, or depositing or collecting property, and offering advice and reassurance on behalf of the Police Service.

"We wish Joan the best for her retirement."

Bromley Council's Chief Executive Doug Patterson and Bromley Police Chief Supt. Charlie Griggs had presented Joan with a cut-glass plaque and certificate at a ceremony held on November 1st last year at The Warren, Coney Hall.

Mrs Harrow said she was overjoyed to have been acknowledged.

In further good news for the West Wickham Team, PC Paul Trew was also nominated for a Safer Bromley Award, and received a certificate in recognition of his contribution towards making Bromley a safer place.
