On a cold November evening members of Spring Park Social Club turned their attention to the warmer climes of southern Italy.
Barbara Stevens, of the Downe WI, gave a lively presentation on the characteristics and merits of an exclusive extra virgin olive oil produced by the Marrone family of Puglia - the heel of the Italian boot.
The oil, which is produced through a single cold-pressing of Coratina olives, is very clean and fresh tasting with a peppery finish.
Members and guests availed themselves of the opportunity to try it mopped up with bread, before buying bottles to put to good use at home.
Ms Stevens proved to be a passionate and entertaining speaker, and happily took questions from the floor.
With the aid of a slide show, members and guests were taken through the production methods of the oil, and the care and attention the family puts into their product was evident.
Anyone wishing to learn more about the Marrone extra virgin olive oil, which is not available in the shops, is welcome to contact Barbara Stevens on 01689 856 114.
