The Women’s Section of the Royal British Legion — Orpington Branch
 |
| Sylvia Hodson and Beryl Adams with their awards |
SISTERS devoted to the Royal British Legion have been presented with the Merit Award Bar for outstanding service.
They were presented with the awards by county chairman Ann Butcher.
Sylvia Hodson, 77, has been a member for more than 50 years.
Now the president, she has been standard bearer, secretary and chairman and has filled in twice as treasurer.
She was a poppy collector for more than 25 years, for which she was awarded the 25-year Poppy Brooch.
Beryl Adams, 75, has been a member for more than 45 years.
She was secretary for more than 20 years until she became ill and spent six months in and out of hospital, meaning she could no longer carry on the job.
And she also was an ardent poppy collector.
Standard bearer Marion Turner was presented with the same award at the Kent County Conference in Ashford.
She has carried the Orpington standard for more than 20 years.
The Women's Section meets at the Royal British Legion Hall, Church Road, Orpington, on the third Thursday of every month.
