Orpington & Chislehurst National Trust Centre

11:43am Tuesday 22nd January 2008

LAST year was a successful year for the centre.

Membership has increased, and the money raised enabled the centre to donate £25,000 to restore the Painted Staircase at Knole.

At the centre there is a twice monthly programme of lectures; monthly walks, and outings to such diverse destinations as the London Wetlands, Wimbledon, Tower Bridge, the Friars at Aylesford, Windsor and Beth Chatto's garden.

The highlight for garden lovers was an opportunity to visit Prince Charles's garden at Highgrove.

There were also short breaks to the Wye Valley and Dorset and the main centre holiday saw members set off on a Baltic cruise.

Plans for activities this year include the Wise Owls Quiz, a wine tasting, a visit to Ypres, Lille, and the First World War battlefields, and a holiday centred on Dresden.

All these activities are great fun, but with the more serious aim of raising money for the National Trust.
