SISTERS devoted to the Royal British Legion were presented with the Merit Award Bar - the highest award in the Women's Section - for outstanding service to the Women's Section Orpington by county chairman Ann Butcher at the December meeting.
Miss Sylvia Hodson, 77, has been a member for more than 50 years. Now the president, she has been standard bearer, secretary and chairman and has filled in twice as treasurer. She was a poppy collector for more than 25 years for which she was awarded the poppy brooch.
Mrs Beryl Adams, 75, has been a member for more than 45 years.
Later, standard bearer Mrs Marion Turner was presented with the same award at the Kent County Conference in Ashford.
Meetings are held at the Royal British Legion Hall, Church Road, Orpington, on the third Thursday in every month.
