| Urban Saints members get into character to see pantomime Peter Pan |
THE club for primary and secondary school pupils in the Orpington area began life on January 12, 1958.
After 50 years, it is full of young blood and its jubilee year is packed with special events.
The first one, a trip to the Peter Pan pantomime at the Churchill Theatre on January 13, was a great success.
Other events planned for 2008 include a house party at Ryde in February for the kids, a boat party on the Thames in March for former members and a six-a-side football tournament in April
with other Urban Saints groups in Kent.
Regular events in the club's programme include a summer camp in August, an athletics competition in September and a stage show at Christmas.
The Urban Saints movement in Great Britain began in 1906 and thus pre-dates Scouts.
It exists to make the Bible relevant to modern young people and there are more than 550 groups nationwide.
Further details can be obtained from the secretary on 01689 852648.
