Rotary Club of Orpington

9:48am Thursday 29th November 2007

AT A recent club dinner, the speaker was Bob Ogley, a well-known author of books on Kent.

He gave members a really enjoyable and, at times, amusing talk describing how he moved from being a newspaper editor into writing books.

This all began following the aftermath of the big storm in 1987 when Kent suffered much damage and Bob published his first book recording the event.

The book was a huge success and he continues to write bestsellers.

His latest collection covers the 20th Century in the county and he gave members a taste of what his research had uncovered.

As well as being very informative - members were most surprised at the long list of famous names who were born in the county - the talk was a trip down memory lane as Bob took members through the various decades, recalling some of the major events.

As with all good talks, he left members wanting more.

His publications have so far raised more than £100,000 for charity, a truly wonderful achievement.
