Bromley and Beckenham Philatelic Society

11:39am Wednesday 20th August 2008

AT THE last meeting of the 2007/08 programme, members were asked to bring recent acquisitions.

Ten members obliged and showed a wide range of items from Zeppelins and crash mail to French pneumatic post and Belgium military themes.

There were also stamps from St Kitts, Lagos, Ascension, Egypt, Fiji, postage dues from Trinidad, postcards with lighthouses, mosques, oil tankers, and even the German Freedom Bell which was cast in a Croydon foundry.

Perhaps the most unusual display was by Michael Blackwood with some recent books from China, including the Three Gorges, Chinese Philosophers and fairy tales.

But the most unusual was a concertina book A-Z of China which opened out to several metres in length.

The society's next meeting will be on September 10 and will include a display of Ascension by Ray Jeal.

Details are on the society's website at beckenham.net/leisure.asp

The society meets in the Public Hall, Bromley Road, Beckenham.

Call secretary, David Rennie on 020 8778 7001 or membership secretary Chris Sands on 020 8402 1263.
