The Association of Wrens (Bromley & District Branch)

11:38am Wednesday 20th August 2008

THE association is celebrating its 60th birthday this year.

Starting with a wine and cheese party in February, members visited Royal Tunbridge Wells this summer and intend to hold a birthday party at the Waldorf Hotel in October, followed by a Christmas lunch in December at the Bromley Court Hotel.

Some of members have been with the branch since the early days.

Younger members also attended the main association's grand reunion in York, when former Wrens and some serving members of the Royal Navy meet to reminisce and perhaps meet old friends.

New members are be very welcome - especially in surrounding areas such as Bexley, Lewisham and Croydon.

Membership includes a colourful magazine three times a year, including articles by former Wrens and pieces for finding long-lost friends.

There are also details of reunions all over the country.

The Bromley branch is holding a quiz evening on September 19 to raise funds for the branch and the Wrens Benevolent Trust, which helps members in need.

If you are interested in any of these events, call Marion Leaver on 020 8300 2742.
