10:07am Friday 11th July 2008

THE Bromley Barbershop Harmony Club is still going strong and currently has an active membership of 48 singers.

Two singers are original members, John Mesure - brother of founder Ron Mesure - and Frank Taylor.

The Bromley club's chorus, The Kentones, has a fine reputation not only for singing but for all the charitable donations they have made over the years to many worthy causes.

As a registered charity, the club aims to educate men of all ages in the art of close harmony singing.

On June 28, the Kentones travelled to Bournemouth to take part in the Open Choir Competition.

They won first prize with distinction for Spirituals, third prize with distinction in Barbershop and third prize with distinction for Music from the Shows.

Further successes were achieved by three of the club's quarters.

Second prize with distinction was awarded to Voice Male, third prize with distinction went to Southern Brand and Cordon Bleu gained a distinction.
