Beckenham and Bromley National Trust Centre
JOHN Buckingham kept his audience spellbound in the Great Hall of the Civic Centre on April 9.
He gave a lecture on Wildlife in South Africa, starting with our well known swallow taking a rest in the middle of its 6,000 mile migration to spend the winter in South Africa.
Most of the other birds were brilliantly coloured.
The Cape sugar bird with a very long beak gathering nectar and distributing pollen as it plunges its head into the proteus flowers.
Moving north along the west coast, John Buckingham took photographs of whales, dolphins and flamingoes.
On reaching the Kalahari desert there were magnificent views of lions, leopards, crocodiles, rhinoceros and giraffes.
The next meeting will be held in the Great Hall of the Civic Centre on May 14 at 8pm.
Brian Boice will give a talk on After the Great Exhibition.
