Beckenham Photographic Soiciety

9:38am Wednesday 10th October 2007

THE society enjoyed a visually spectacular evening when Peter Watson gave a slide presentation on northern India.

Peter has visited the region every year for the past 20 years and has seen many charges.

It was fascinating to see crumbling traditional Indian buildings painted in various contrasting hues as well as the more spectacular palaces.

Sadly, many of the traditional buildings are disappearing either through age and dilapidation or to make way for modern development.

Equally fascinating were the people, varying from character studies of individuals from all classes and scenes of mass humanity bathing in the Ganges.

One charming little girl was obviously very poorly dressed.

Peter took pity on her and offered to buy her a new dress.

He was informed all the tourists bought her new clothes.

The girl would then take them back and spend the money back on sweets.
