Friends of St Paulinus Church
THE Baker Trust Hall in Crayford was filled to capacity for the visit of Dr Simon Harris.
Dr Harris, the biographer of Sir Cloudesly Shovell, gave a talk on the Stuart Admiral.
He described the many naval actions in which Sir Cloudesly took part with a very attractive presentation.
Dr Harris also spoke about his residence at Mayplace between 1694 and 1707 and his refurnishing of St Paulinus Church.
He ended with a graphic description of the storm on the night of October 22, 1707, off the Isles of Scilly, when Sir Cloudesly, his two stepsons and around 1,800 sailors died.
