Joydens Wood Women’s Institute
At last month's meeting, following the welcome to members by president Doreen Roness and the usual business, members were entertained by speaker Mr March on English Country Cheeses.
Mr March proved to be a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic speaker on the history of cheeses.
He told how cheese was a very important food for the ancient Egyptians, who created the concept of preserving cheese. He said the inside walls of the tombs of the pharaohs showed pictures of cheese.
It was introduced in this country when the
Romans were here.
Members were invited to try some of the several cheeses Mr March had brought with him.
Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month at the Community Centre, Birchwood Drive, Joydens Wood, at 7.30pm for 7.45pm. Visitors are welcome.
