CHRIS McCooey and his quirky humour returned at a recent meeting, where he talked about Rogues, Rascals and Rebels.

John Bodkin Adams was a medical man who was very popular with his patients, but he was tried and struck off for poisoning at least one them.

John Pearce and his wife, Sue, talked about Flowers for Emma, the love story of Sue's grandmother at the start of the First World War.

Emma met her future fiance when out for a walk and she lost her hat.

The couple drifted apart until they met again accidently and got engaged.

Then the man was sent to France where he was killed.

Emma never told anyone his name and her only keepsake was his medals which became lost over the years.

Four years after Emma died, the medals came to light with a name engraved on the side.

After a lot of research, John and Sue knew they belonged to Emma's fiance.

They were able to visit his grave in France and lay flowers there, fulfilling a promise made to Emma.

Eileen Knapp thanked them for a very touching story.
