LAST month the speaker was Ann Chance, a professional carer with several years full-time training, who told us of her experiences taking one of her clients with Cerebral Palsy to see the Grand Canyon and other wonders in the US.
It was a trip her client, Valerie, had always dreamed of.
Ann was a very interesting speaker, whose recounting of arranging for Valerie to "spend a penny" aboad the aeroplane when it was found the disabled toilet was out of order was hilarious. Let it suffice to say it involved the stewardess, the pilot, the co-pilot, getting permission from the ground staff for the pilot of an aircraft travelling 100,000ft above them to change places to avoid turbulence and wheeling Valerie through First Class.
Members were spellbound.
The club meets on the fourth Monday of each month at the District Scouts Headquarters, Mayplace Road, which is easily accessible by public transport and also has a car park.
Our meetings start sharply at 7.45pm and we try to be there by 7.30pm. For more information, call 020 8473 5713.
